Iguá Saneamento established the Iguá Institute for Sustainability (IIS) in 2018 to demonstrate their commitment to making a difference in the sanitation sector, promoting the expansion of the social impact of this activity. Developed through partnerships with other companies, social organizations and investors that share a common goal, the Iguá Institute for Sustainability’s mission is to contribute to the universalisation of sanitation in Brazil, through the promotion of innovation and education for sustainable development. Iguá Institute for Sustainability understands creating a positive impact in the sanitation sector goes beyond treating and providing water and collecting and treating sewage. It means focussing on discovering innovative solutions to solving old problems and leaving a positive legacy for future generations of Brazilians.

Ipu - Water & Sanitation Venture Philanthropy

Instituto Iguá and Climate Ventures launch the first Venture Philanthropy initiative in Brazil

Instituto Iguá for Sustainability and Climate Ventures launched a venture philanthropy initiative with the Ipu - Water & Sanitation Venture Philanthropy Fund (the Fund), which is the first Venture Philanthropy initiative in Brazil dedicated to creating a positive impact in water and sanitation in Brazil. The fund was launched on International Water Day, a date dedicated to celebrating the importance of water and to attract visibility to the theme directly related to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal 6. The fund seeks to foster the ecosystem of socio-environmental impact in Brazil, supporting startups and social organizations through donations from Iguá, IG4 Capital, banks and family offices with customized acceleration according to the main challenges of each organization.

The concept of Venture Philanthropy was originated by the International Venture Philanthropy Center (IVPC) is a new concept in Brazil but has been in practice since 2010 in Asia and Europe. The term refers to the promotion of impact businesses and / or civil society organizations, aiming to promote the financial sustainability of the supported projects and the growing socio-environmental impact in the medium and long term.

The fund is monitored by the Financial Innovation LAB, an initiative developed in partnership by the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank), CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission), ABDE (Brazilian Development Association) and GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH).
